Young people have their say

Goole Youth Action is a coalition of various voluntary and charitable organisations that shares its knowledge and good practice, and which works to provide a diary of social events, effective support and valuable opportunities for 8 – 19-year-olds.

As you’d imagine from its name, young people are constantly at the centre of Goole Youth Action’s aims and those of its partners. When it came to creating a website for GYA, its first point of contact was Goole Youth Forum, as well as other young locals who were keen to shape the information the site contained and the help it could provide.

Members of the Goole Youth Forum attended regular meetings to determine the crucial messages the website needed to project to young people in the Goole and Old Goole areas, as well as the information and transparency it needed to deliver to its various stakeholders, e.g. parents and guardians, donors, and the wider public.

The forum gave its input on everything from the site’s layout and navigation to the colours, graphics and images used across its various pages. The end result meets their vision—a site that provides necessary and helpful information to each type of visitor in a fun, easily accessible and straightforward manner.

The Forum helped to gather the opinions of their peers from other groups and across a number of different events, and they were instrumental in determining the topics/elements in which young people would likely search for support or information. With inherent knowledge of the Goole area, they gave valuable suggestions concerning future events and collaborations for GYA to explore.

GYA would like to thank every single young person who gave their time and put forward their thoughts as the website was created, with particular thanks to the Goole Youth Forum. We couldn’t have created it without them.
